A reluctant forth-generation police officer who always wanted to be a writer, The Cop, a gentle and caring man, has spent the past one hundred years patrolling an almost completely vacant and crime free city in an attempt to overcompensate for his inaction leading up to the days of the fall of humanity. He has always blamed himself for not doing his duty and for not ignoring protocol (he was placed on mental health leave when his wife left him only weeks before “the day”). He has always assumed that he could have helped but was to fearful of the repercussions, although now it is evident that there would have been no repercussions as the world perished and everyone he had ever know in his life is gone. He is also dealing with the quilt of not being there for his aging parents as the chaos consumed the world – although, again, there is nothing he could have done to prevent the fall. When Steven asks him for his help The Cop is only too eager to assist – thinking that this is his chance (finally) to redeem himself and make his father proud. But what is going to be put before him will test every fiber of his being.
